OUR TERMLY VALUES

Displayed about school and in every classroom are our 'Termly Values' which serve as a reminder to every one of the ways in which we can live and learn successfully together.  Each half term has a different value and they have been chosen and developed by our children to show what they think it means to work in our school (and later in life).

These values are reinforced during assemblies and should also be referred to by adults in school throughout every aspect of school life.

Our Values and what they mean to us...

Trust

We will have integrity, strength, ability, and we work to develop each other's confidence.  We foster an atmosphere of hope.  We learn to work with each other and rely upon each other, regardless of age!  We try hard to develop trust and to look after it.

Respect

We will respect each other and our differences.  We develop esteem for or a sense of the worth or excellence of each person and we look to foster personal qualities and abilities.  We teach each other to respect others for their knowledge/skills and abilities or because they have a privileged position and we acknowledge we all have strengths and weaknesses, others will be better in some areas.

Responsible

We will teach each other to be answerable or accountable, we look to take on responsibilities and we look to support each other to achieve them.  We know that we are all responsible for each other, our school environment and the wider world around us.  As a team we all play our part, we are all responsible.

Courage

We will develop and foster the quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty, danger, pain, etc, without fear.  We teach bravery and provide each other with the support to achieve goals and outcomes that sometimes can seem out of reach.  We look after each other and help each other to achieve more.

Caring

We will feel good about who we are.  We know people care for us and we in turn care for and respect other people and the world around us.  This includes forgiveness and saying sorry when we get things wrong.

We know we are all unique and special.

Cooperation

We will all work together to achieve the best outcome for all parties.  We often work as a team or as part of a team acting together for a common purpose or benefit.  We foster a willingness to cooperate and always look to work collaboratively.  Regardless of status or stakeholder we will at all times look to support and help each other.

Cheerful

We will develop an atmosphere of fun and enjoyment.  We will enjoy each other's company and as far as possible be in good spirits with all people.  We will promote a happy working environment and make our days as bright and as enjoyable as possible.  Work made fun, gets done.

Thoughtful

We will show consideration for others at all times.  We will develop a safe atmosphere where we can all succeed.  We will encourage each other to think before we act and to know right from wrong.  We will be role models for each other and ensure that what we do is done with thought for others and ourselves.  We will be able to reflect and learn from our mistakes.

Friendship

We will know what it is to be a good friend to others and we will learn that friendship and working together is a key life skill both in and out of school.  We will learn to work in a friendly supportive manner with everyone in our school.  We will model being a good friend to each other.

Honest

We will develop an environment where we will be honorable in principles, intentions, and actions.  We will develop each other to be upright and fair and an honest person.  We will develop an atmosphere where telling the truth and being honest is supported.  We will be genuine and sincere and develop a place of work that encourages and supports one another.

Perseverance

We will encourage and develop a steady persistence and provide an atmosphere of support that encourages not giving in and "giving it a go".  We will develop a will and a have a go spirit in spite of difficulties, obstacles, or discouragement.  We will celebrate and enjoy each other's achievements when persistence has been shown.

Considerate

We will develop our supportive and caring environment showing kindly awareness or regard for another's feelings or circumstances.  We will be careful to look after each other and our environment and know that we all have a part to play in the support we all offer.

Promoting British Values at Abington Vale

At Abington Vale, we are committed to serving our community and recognise the multicultural, multi-faith and every changing nature of the United Kingdom. We understand that promoting British values means that we actively challenge pupils, staff or parents who may express extremist opinions contrary to fundamental British values, including extremist views.

British values are defined as:

  • Democracy

  • Rule of Law

  • Individual liberty

  • Mutual respect

  • Tolerance of those with different faiths of beliefs.

These values complement our school values and are actively promoted through PSHE lessons, assemblies, special events and our successful school council.
