“History, the study of the past, is all around us; we are continually making history through our thoughts, words and actions. History is personal and global; it is everyday life and momentous occasions. History is about people.” Historical Association

At Abington Vale, we teach a broad and ambitious history curriculum that supports children in understanding Britain’s past and that of the wider world. Our curriculum gives our children broad and rich encounters with the past and reflects our locality to ensure children have a rich understanding of their local heritage, as well as changes over time. Local history is woven into our curriculum and is explicitly taught across both key stages.

Our curriculum has been intentionally designed to ensure children develop substantive knowledge, alongside the development of disciplinary knowledge, as they learn the fundamental elements of what it is to be a historian. Our history units have been carefully sequenced to ensure children obtain a solid understanding of key historical concepts and knowledge about the past.

Educational visits, experiences and workshops are embedded across our curriculum to ensure all children have high quality experiences on which to connect their learning.
