At Abington Vale Primary School we have designed a skill based curriculum that enables subjects to be taught using a cross curricular approach. We want our children to have an exciting curriculum that really prepares our children for the rigours of secondary school and the future beyond. Subjects are combined and the children have targets to achieve so that they always know what to do to improve and what to do next.
“The curriculum is good. Staff successfully plan a creative skills-based curriculum, routinely adding the five areas of sport, drama, art, music and creativity to ensure it is stimulating and enjoyable. Effective links are made between the different subjects and topics are regularly reviewed. The curriculum is enhanced by the many extra-curricular clubs run before and after school, where pupils of different ages enjoy playing and working together in an interesting variety of activities such as Rock School, Street Dancing and creating music using computers. Music is a particular strength. The school choir, led by a music specialist performs to a high standard and has shared their music with elderly members of the community in a local residential home as well as singing in the O2 Arena in London.” Ofsted 2011
We help our children to become individual learners and take ownership of their progress and attainment. Parents are regularly informed of their child’s progress and school is seen as a real partnership between us all.
Through our teaching we ensure that the children get a mixed diet of activities to ensure that all learning styles are catered for. Our children are all different and will learn in different ways.
We try to include as many WOW days as possible to bring the children’s learning to life! We encourage our children to join in, get stuck in and have fun learning.
Our curriculum is regularly reviewed to ensure that it is still relevant and as exciting as possible.
There are plenty of opportunities to use Sport, Art, Music and Drama, visits and visitors and technology to bring the learning alive.

Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND) information and the Local Offer
In September 2014 a new Code of Practice for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) was published. As a result every local authority must identify education, health and social care services in their local area provided for children, young people and families who have Special Educational Needs or disabilities and include them in an information directory called the Local Offer.

Pastoral Care, Inclusion and Safeguarding
We pride ourselves on our caring ethos. We foster an environment where every child matters. We have a child centred curriculum that encourages children to be independent and learn skills that are going to benefit them throughout their lives. We have an open door policy that encourages parents to come and talk to us regarding their children's progress We are often thought of as the little school with the big heart.

We celebrate diversity and the richness it brings to the school community and encourage the children to do the same. We are committed to giving all of our children every opportunity to achieve the highest of standards. We do this by taking account of pupils’ varied life experiences and needs. The Government has provided school sport funding in order to improve the provision of physical education and sport in primary schools. This funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport.
